FAQ

Why do I have slab leaks and could it have been prevented?
The exact cause for slab leaks is not well understood even though several municipalities have conducted extensive research into the possible causes. Among the possible reasons are poor workmanship in the original installation, poor quality materials, aggressive water and ph that is below 6.5. We have personally observed all of the above as well as large sections of buried pipe in which the seam on the pipe is attacked from the interior, resulting in pinhole leaks developing along the entire length of the pipe. The old contractor notion that the pipe was corroded from the exterior due to soil conditions, or that the line had come into contact with concrete during construction, has not held true. In Orange County, CA, we have also recently observed piping systems with pinhole leaks throughout the entire system, both hot and cold sides, and this confirms that the leaks are resulting from interior corrosion to the copper lines. It appears that the only solution to prevent slab leaks or other pinhole leaks in the system is to apply a barrier coating within the pipe system.

Is epoxy a healthy alternative?
Yes, we use only approved potable water epoxy coatings, certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 61, with all quality standards strictly adhered to. The family of epoxy coatings used in our process have been in use worldwide in public water systems for well over 45 years. The air/sand lining process was originally developed in Europe and Japan, the infrastructure there is much older than here and lead piping is common, and first adopted in the U.S. by the Navy for use on the ships and land based facilities.

How long will I be inconvenienced?
This depends on the project. Most homes and single line repairs are complete and returned to service in two days. If a line is severely corroded, then additional applications of epoxy may be required, which would extend the time to cure and return to service . Larger homes with more connections may also take additional time. Our goal is always to complete in a two day and one night schedule. For repair of a single line, disruption is normally limited to short intervals unless it is a main service line that has developed a leak.

Why should I choose pipeline rehabilitation?
Less damage to your home than a repipe or reroute of a failed line.
Quicker process—one to two days under normal conditions.
Eco-friendly—no new copper pipe required, no waste to landfills.
Permanent fix—new copper lines have failed in as short as two years.
Less costly—often half the cost of a re-pipe or re-route.
